FEATURES / Transfer Acceleration

/// Transfer Acceleration

Uploads from across the world. Roughly 5x faster.

Flip one per-bucket toggle and Storafleet routes your direct presigned uploads through the AWS S3 Transfer Acceleration edge instead of straight to the home region. Built for long-distance uploads — and we surface the AWS per-GB fee up front.

/// How it works

01

Pick an AWS S3 bucket

Open any S3 bucket connected to Storafleet. Transfer Acceleration is AWS S3 only — it routes uploads through Amazon's s3-accelerate edge, so it applies to your S3 buckets.

02

Flip the acceleration toggle

Turn on the per-bucket Transfer Acceleration toggle. Storafleet shows the AWS per-GB fee up front, and blocks the toggle if the bucket name has a dot in it since the accelerate endpoint can't resolve it.

03

Uploads route through the edge

From then on, Storafleet generates presigned upload URLs against <bucket>.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com. Long-distance uploads enter at the nearest CloudFront edge — roughly 5x faster. Downloads are unchanged.

~5x faster long-distance uploads

S3 Transfer Acceleration routes uploads over the CloudFront edge network instead of the open internet. For intercontinental and long-distance transfers, that means roughly 5x faster uploads to your bucket.

A single per-bucket toggle

Acceleration is opt-in per bucket. Flip one toggle in Storafleet and presigned uploads to that bucket start routing through the accelerate endpoint. Flip it off and they go straight to the home region again.

Works on your direct presigned uploads

When the toggle is on, Storafleet issues presigned URLs against the s3-accelerate endpoint instead of the bucket's regional endpoint. Your upload path is unchanged — only the hostname your client PUTs to changes.

Edge ingest, near your users

Uploads enter the AWS network at the nearest CloudFront edge location (<bucket>.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com), then travel to your bucket's home region over AWS's backbone rather than the public internet.

The AWS fee, surfaced clearly

Transfer Acceleration adds an AWS per-GB transfer-acceleration charge on accelerated uploads. Storafleet shows this clearly when you enable the toggle so the cost is never a surprise on your bill.

Guards against incompatible buckets

The accelerate endpoint can't resolve a bucket name with a dot in it over TLS. Storafleet detects dotted bucket names, warns you, and blocks enabling acceleration so you never end up with a silently broken upload path.

/// Without Storafleet

Users far from your bucket's home region push uploads over the open internet to a single S3 region. Intercontinental uploads are slow, time out on large files, and there's no easy switch to fix it.

  • Uploads from Asia or Europe to a US bucket travel the whole way over the public internet
  • Large intercontinental uploads are slow and prone to timeouts and drop-offs
  • Enabling S3 Transfer Acceleration means digging through the AWS Console bucket properties
  • The accelerate endpoint silently fails on dotted bucket names — easy to misconfigure
  • No clear, up-front view of the extra AWS per-GB acceleration cost before you turn it on

/// With Storafleet

One per-bucket toggle routes uploads through the AWS s3-accelerate edge. Long-distance uploads enter at the nearest CloudFront edge and ride AWS's backbone — roughly 5x faster — with the per-GB fee shown before you enable.

  • A single per-bucket toggle routes presigned uploads through <bucket>.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com
  • Long-distance uploads enter at the nearest CloudFront edge — roughly 5x faster
  • No Console trip — flip acceleration on or off for any eligible S3 bucket from Storafleet
  • Dotted bucket names are detected, flagged, and blocked before you can break uploads
  • The AWS per-GB transfer-acceleration fee is surfaced clearly when you enable the toggle

Platform Engineer01

A global user base uploading to one US bucket

Your app stores everything in a single us-east-1 bucket, but your users upload from everywhere. Users in Singapore and São Paulo see slow, timing-out uploads. You flip on Transfer Acceleration for that bucket. Their uploads now enter AWS at a nearby CloudFront edge and ride the backbone to Virginia — roughly 5x faster — with no change to your single-region setup.

Engineering Lead02

An Asia/Europe team pushing builds to a US bucket

Your CI artifacts and large assets live in a US bucket, but the team uploading them sits in Berlin and Bangalore. Multi-gigabyte uploads crawl over the open internet. You enable acceleration on the artifacts bucket, see the per-GB AWS fee Storafleet surfaces, and accept it for the time saved. Uploads from across the world land far faster over AWS's edge network.

SaaS Founder03

Far-away creators uploading large media

Creators upload large video and image files into your platform from regions thousands of miles from your bucket's home region. Drop-offs spike on big uploads. You turn on Transfer Acceleration for the media bucket. The accelerate edge cuts long-distance upload time dramatically, so far-away creators stop abandoning their uploads.
