/// Intelligent-Tiering
Cut S3 storage cost with one toggle.
Flip 'Auto-optimize storage cost' and Storafleet adds a day-0, merge-safe lifecycle rule that hands your bucket to AWS S3 Intelligent-Tiering. AWS then moves objects between instant access tiers automatically — no retrieval fees, no latency, nothing for you to manage.
Start for free/// How it works
Flip the cost-optimize toggle
Open a bucket and turn on 'Auto-optimize storage cost'. Storafleet adds a day-0 transition-to-INTELLIGENT_TIERING lifecycle rule, merged safely alongside any rules you already have.
AWS auto-tiers your objects
From there, AWS S3 moves objects between instant access tiers based on access patterns. Frequently-read objects stay hot, cold objects move down — all with no retrieval fees and no added latency.
Opt into deep archive if it fits
For data you rarely touch, optionally enable the Archive (~90 days) and Deep Archive (~180 days) tiers for deeper savings. Storafleet warns that these add minutes-to-hours retrieval latency, so it stays off until you choose it.
One toggle, zero config
Flip 'Auto-optimize storage cost' on a bucket and Storafleet adds a day-0 transition-to-INTELLIGENT_TIERING lifecycle rule for you. No JSON, no aws s3api put-bucket-lifecycle-configuration, no Console.
Merge-safe lifecycle changes
Enabling the toggle never clobbers your existing lifecycle rules. Storafleet merges the Intelligent-Tiering rule into the bucket's current configuration — your expiration and other transition rules stay exactly as they were.
AWS does the tiering for you
Once enabled, AWS S3 Intelligent-Tiering automatically moves objects between access tiers based on how often each object is read. Nothing for you to monitor, schedule, or manage after the toggle is on.
No retrieval fees, no latency
The instant access tiers in Intelligent-Tiering charge no retrieval fees and add no latency. Objects that go cold cost less to store, but reads stay just as fast as standard S3 — you don't trade performance for savings.
Optional deep-archive opt-in
For genuinely cold data, opt in to the Archive (after ~90 days untouched) and Deep Archive (after ~180 days) tiers for extra savings. These add retrieval latency of minutes to hours, so it's off by default and clearly warned before you enable it.
Set-and-forget cost savings
Best for buckets with unpredictable or changing access patterns. Turn the toggle on once and let AWS shift each object to the cheapest instant tier it qualifies for — no guessing which storage class to pick per object.
/// Without Storafleet
Optimizing S3 cost means hand-authoring lifecycle JSON, guessing which storage class fits each object, and risking that a bad put-bucket-lifecycle-configuration wipes the rules you already rely on.
- Choosing a storage class per object is guesswork when access patterns are unpredictable
- Writing a transition lifecycle rule means hand-editing JSON or running aws s3api commands
- A careless put-bucket-lifecycle-configuration overwrites every other rule on the bucket
- Moving cold data to cheaper classes by hand risks adding retrieval fees or latency you didn't intend
- Once rules are set, nothing re-tiers objects as their access pattern changes over time
/// With Storafleet
One merge-safe toggle hands the bucket to AWS Intelligent-Tiering. AWS picks the right tier per object automatically, and your existing lifecycle rules stay exactly as they were.
- AWS Intelligent-Tiering auto-moves each object to the cheapest instant tier it qualifies for
- One toggle adds the day-0 transition-to-INTELLIGENT_TIERING rule — no JSON, no CLI
- The change is merge-safe: your existing expiration and transition rules are never clobbered
- Instant access tiers carry no retrieval fees and no added latency — reads stay fast
- Optional, clearly-warned deep-archive opt-in for cold data when minutes-to-hours retrieval is fine
/// When you'll use this
A bucket with unpredictable access patterns
Your app bucket gets hammered some weeks and sits quiet others — you can't predict which objects will be hot. Picking a storage class per object is a losing game. You open Storafleet, flip 'Auto-optimize storage cost' on the bucket, and AWS Intelligent-Tiering takes over: each object lands in the cheapest instant tier it qualifies for, with no retrieval fees and no latency hit on reads.
Key featureOne-click day-0 Intelligent-Tiering lifecycle rule
Set-and-forget savings without breaking anything
You want lower storage costs but you're nervous about touching lifecycle rules — there's already an expiration rule you depend on. Storafleet's toggle is merge-safe: it adds the Intelligent-Tiering transition without clobbering your existing rules. You enable it once, confirm your other rules are untouched, and stop thinking about storage costs.

Logs and backups that go cold over time
You keep months of logs and old asset backups that are read constantly at first, then almost never. After enabling Intelligent-Tiering, you opt into the deep-archive tiers for this cold-skewing bucket. Storafleet warns you that Archive and Deep Archive add minutes-to-hours retrieval latency — acceptable here, since nobody reads year-old logs in real time — and the cold data gets the deepest discount.
